OBNHS’s goal is to continue to offer the region equal access to health care, while providing a seamless experience for patients from arrival for diagnosis to their return home.

Heather Sherrard, BScN, MHA

Heather Sherrard obtained her BScN (Nursing) at the University of Saskatchewan and her Masters in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. She is an executive health care administrator and researcher with 20 years in senior health care management positions. She has held a variety of clinical and administrative positions in the acute care hospital sector.

She was a member of the original team which built the OBNHS model and has been an active Board member since the beginning of the program.

Heather holds positions on a number of provincial committees dealing with clinical issues related to cardiac care including: implementation of best practices; development of quality based procedure funding; transplantation; and health services delivery.

She has served on a number of Boards related to health care.

Her ongoing research interests are in health services. Her current research includes studies on the use of technology to enable care and the implementation and spread of best practices.

Robert Reid, Ph.D., MBA

Dr. Robert Reid is Deputy Chief of the Division of Prevention and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Reid is one of Canada’s leading health behavior change experts, particularly concerning smoking cessation, physical activity promotion, dietary change and cardiovascular rehabilitation. He is a main inventor of the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation, a systematic approach to identifying and assisting smokers in clinical practice settings. His research is funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute, the Ontario Ministry of Health, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Sharonann Kearns

Ms Kearns is a certified professional in healthcare quality with expertise in privacy and risk management, patient advocacy, patient safety and continuous quality improvement.

Melinda Cesario Assaf, CPA, CA

Melinda is a Chartered Professional Accountant (legacy designation CA). She is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Kardish Health Food Centre where she leads and oversees company performance, planning and reporting and human resources. In addition, Melinda provides business advisory services to for profit and not-for-profit for companies.

Melinda has worked with many not-for-profit organizations as a senior auditor when she worked at Collins Barrow LLP and KPMG LLP. After working in public accounting, Melinda joined NAV CANADA as a finance manager in the corporate reporting group.

Melinda’s past board member experience includes the Ottawa CA Association and is currently a board member of the Riverside Park Nursery School.

As an OHSNI board member, Melinda uses her experience as a financial leader to develop financial management policies for the organization and to guide the organization through the financial reporting and budgeting process.
